Might is right was a rule in Gold Rush times and it out of date now - said director of the Batani Foundation Galina Idigesheva at the international conference "The Global Compact in Russia: business and indigenous peoples".
The conference, organized by Russian network of UN Global Compact, Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd., Raipon and Batani Foundation was held at the Russian Public Chamber building September 12.
Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd., Kinross Gold corporation, Irkutsk Oil Company, Polymetal, the South Yakutia Development Corporation, World Bank, International Finance Corporation, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights , UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, as well as federal and regional officials, indigenous communities and environmental organizations were participated the Conference.
Galina Idigesheva also noted that decision makers needs to take into account the social stability, image risks, and loan portfolio. But most important issue is to make true the indigenous traditional lifestyle in Russian regions without risks for indigenous people’s future.

At the end of her presentation she said that Batani entered into the UN Global Compact this September. Some Russian giants such as Rosneft, Lukoil, Rusal, Sakhalin Energy Investment Company Ltd. are also the participants of Russian Global Compact network.
